HISTORY
From the early Aboriginals to the European discoverers and settlers, Wilsons Promontory National Park contains a rich and exciting history.
Many have heard or are aware of the great Aboriginal and European history in the Prom (for more use drop down menu) but park also has many other great stories.
In WWII Wilsons Prom was closed to the public as it was used for commando training.
The lighthouse was built in 1859 and was an integral part of the navigation of the Bass Strait
Wilsons Prom main entrance road was not made/completed until the 1930's, before then people had to make their way into the prom by car horse or boat along the beach, aiming not to be hit by the oncoming waves.
